About

Isometric Mirrors

We look into the mirror to get a sense of reality. In the reflection we expect to see the world just as it is, nothing more; a passing glance to reaffirm our expectations. What happens when a tweaked reality gazes back at us, thus altering our perception of what is real? The ensemble of 3 mirrors offers a skewed sense of space by creating an optical illusion that suggests a window to another realm.

A Four Course Meal

Water is all around us, sustaining life in its various forms. It exists in different landscapes - drought deserts grounds, irrigated and flooded areas, melting glaciers and geyser fields. Each course reflects the different states of water by a progression in the shape of the tableware. The form family remains simple with recurring formal elements accentuating the experience of and appreciation for water. The set of tableware is proposing new possibilities for chefs to experiment with food and liquid in its distinct forms with tableware as a platform that encourages a different perspectives in presentation, creating new landscapes with food.

Contrast chair

A chair that emphasizes subtle contrast in changing the proportions of an archetypical chair by enlarging and reducing profiles. By uniting fragile and stable, differences are highlighted in monochromatic shades which underline the effect of contrast and thus proportion is brought back in harmony through the use of colour. Darker shades on the larger parts, lighter shades on the smaller parts and vice versa to achieve the opposite effect.

How Are You?

How are you? It is a question that is easy to ask but difficult to answer. Just as the answer is as mutable as one's mood, this typeface reflects the ever changing answer of life's most commonly asked question. The typeface is a playful medium of expressing oneself and the multiple meanings of one's personal expression. It offers a wide range of possibilities and lends itself in the many situations one may encounter.

Crying Cat

One common reason that cats meow excessively is because they are trying to get their owners to do something for them. If this is the case, you must consider the last action you performed for your meowing cat. Did you feed them? Did you clean out their litter box? What was it that you did to reward their meowing?

About

I was born in Riga, Latvia, in 1985. After studying design in Denmark I went on an internship at Rasmus Koch Studio in Copenhagen where I developed my skills in graphic design. In 2007, I co-founded the Latvian culture magazine Veto, serving as Art Director and Designer and is now in its fifth year of publication. At the same time I began studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven, in the department Man & Living, where my primary focus was on furniture and interiors. Prior to my graduation in 2011 I completed an internship at Studio Robert Stadler in Paris.

A common theme in my work is investigating how people interact with their environment and how design can influence this interaction. I often employ my graphic design background to add a new and fresh approach to design and enjoy experimenting with different materials and perceptions of space.
